Honeymoon in Florence - Day 4

Day 4 was a Saturday and quite frankly we did not fancy the idea of fighting the extra crowds that would be around on a weekend in the city....so we decided to make this the day to take a picnic and visit the Boboli Gardens....we went to a nearby deli supermarket to buy our picnic and take it back to the room....so that we could firstly make a little trip to see Santa Maria Novella.

Walking over the Ponte Vecchia before the jewellery shops open for the day is great as you get to see the shutters up ;)
Loved that every day we walked across the bridge :)

On the way we sort of went the wrong way and ended up passing some unexpected delights...
...we bought some lovely bread and almond cakes for our picnic...

...went in a little church that we had passed on the tour bus..it was a treasure...sorry but I can't remember it's name!

Then Santa Maria Novella....this is such a fantastic church.

Not as grand on the outside as the Duomo...

...but inside....Oh my!

...and outside in the cloisters too...

Time for a coffee and to pick up our picnic and head off for the Boboli Gardens...

At the entrance...

The covered walkway at the side of the main avenue provided some welcome shade on the way up and wonderful bird song too! :)

Our picnic...and view...it was lovely and cool beneath the trees...

Love this sculpture...I'd rather like it in my garden!!!

...more of the gardens...

Views at the top of the gardens...and yes you are in the city still here!!!

Porcelain museum...

Grotto....

We had walked a long way...it was late afternoon by now....but a few more sights on the way back to the hotel...

A shower to cool down and then one of those naps was in order...
...but hey...
...one thing led to another and lets just say the next thing I remember was being woken with a kiss in time for breakfast !!! ROFL

Thanks for looking
Come back for day 5 won't you?! :)

  1. ooh, Sioux.... The gardens are stunning, they look so quiet and peaceful - were you there on your own?! The church looks absolutely beautiful. My favourite day of your honeymoon so far, lol!!

  2. What a beautiful day you had! I now want to go back and visit the Boboli Gardens and Santa Maria Novella, which, although just down the road from our hotel we never managed to get into for various reasons! The fantastic church you visited was the St Ognissanti and was the first church we went into on the way to the Ponte Vecchio! Just saw it across the square and thought why not - it is a treasure isn't it - did you see the Botticelli on the wall? Must stop rambling, Chrisx

  3. I want to go to Florence even more now! Perhaps Hubby might take me for our anniversary in September or my 50th birthday next year... Jo x
